Mariam Gillett - Team Member
Description:
Meet Team Member Mariam Gillet, a junior at the Episcopal School of Dallas! There, she is a part of BSU, Mu Alpha Theta Track, and volunteers at Foster Elementary as part of the Before School Community Spanish Program. She is also a Girl Scout and participates in Shoulder to Shoulder. Mariam is supporting Evellyn and her family, as well as Mariam’s grandpa, who has passed away from cancer.
My Why:
Growing up, Evellyn’s grandma had taken me under her wing. She had worked in Uganda for 20+ years and offered me an opportunity to connect with someone close to where I was born, which was Ethiopia. When she passed from cancer, it affected me as if she was my own grandmother.
Through my work with ESD and Shoulder to Shoulder, I have also seen what an impact it makes to truly advocate and put in work towards something that directly affects the quality of the lives of other human beings. Through this program, I want to broaden that for those diagnosed or are family and friends of those who have been diagnosed with cancer, specifically Blood Cancer.
